A Luxury Collection Hotel

Living in the bay area we go to San Francisco quite often but very rarely do we get to stay in a hotel as glamorous as The Palace Hotel. Last weekend, our family had the pleasure of staying at one of San Francisco’s iconic hotels since 1875. It is a renowned historical landmark right in the heart of the city. Tucked in the financial district, it is within walking distance to shopping malls, the ferry building, delicious eateries and tourist attractions.

About the Palace hotel

Established in 1875, it was San Francisco’s first and the world’s largest luxury hotel. It is amazing to think all of the embossed door handles, crystal, marble, and authentic architecture is original with a restoration that gives the hotel a modernized touch. The original 1909 Maxfield Parrish mural still remains in The Pied Piper Bar, and little has changed since it was rebuilt in 1906 after the earthquake. As an art history fan I was inspired and in awe to see all the classic details from the past dripping with historic perfection .

When we entered the hotel, the first thing we noticed was the beautiful Garden Court. It felt like we were transported to Paris with all the exquisite details in the marble columns, wood work and chandeliers. This is the area we had breakfast every morning and felt so dreamy.

With its incredible architecture, dome stained glass ceiling and Austrian crystal chandeliers, The Garden Court became the site for some of the nation's most prestigious events. Dining in the Garden Court today felt like a rare opportunity to immerse ourselves in the romance of a bygone era.

the rooms

The Palace hotel renovated its rooms in 2015, so, despite the hotel’s historic status, it all felt up to date, with clean linens with a modern touch to the guest rooms. It has an amazing blend of the old and the new, such as the robotic toilets with heated seats. The space felt elegant and relaxing.

Amenities:

  • Fitness center (24 hours)

  • Heated pool

  • Kids program

  • Bar

The small details of brass chandeliers, vintage prints along the walls in the gym and rooms were all too good.

The heated pool with glass ceilings, lined with lounge chairs were one of our most favorite features of the hotel. There is also a warm jacuzzi whirlpool and the pool is open from 5:00am until 10:00pm.

Overall, The Palace is an enchanting, updated, and historical place. The biggest downside is also a plus, it is located in the middle of busy downtown San Francisco, right on Market street. Busy street life and a lot going on, easy to reach to places but parking is hard anywhere in downtown San Francisco.
